The Leigh Group is one of the six groups of the Liverpool and South West Lancashire Family History Society.
Leigh & District Family History Society was formed in 1982. Meetings are held at Leigh Library throughout the winter months.
Meetings take place in the Derby Room at Leigh Library. They start at 7.30 pm and are held on the third Tuesday of each month except June, July and December.
The winter session starts in August and usually takes the form of a Beginners' Evening when members and newcomers are able to use the Group's library facilities to carry out their own research.
Other meetings usually have a family history related speaker but members are always able to browse and borrow books from the Group's library.
Members have been involved in many projects over the years. The first project was a compilation of the whereabouts for all church records for the whole of the area covered by Leigh & District and surrounding areas.
Monumental Inscriptions recording is carried out regularly by members and the following churchyards and cemeteries have been recorded.
Unfortunately we are unable to carry out detailed research.
The Group also run a help desk at the Library every Monday from 1:30 to 3:30pm. The purpose of the Helpdesk is to give assistance to the public with any enquiries and requests concerning their own ancestry including how to go about tracing their family line back through the ages.
